#113: How Kevin Pugar Started a $40,000 Side Business Selling Handmade Sunglasses (Brightside Eyewear)

About the Episode:

In today’s episode, we’re talking to Kevin Pugar, the side hustler behind Brightside, the high-quality affordable eyewear company he runs as a side project outside of his main pursuit, heading up the operations for a medical group in Los Angeles.

After studying in college to become an accountant, Kevin went on to get his CPA and start working out in the field where he quickly learned after two grueling tax seasons, that this line of work wasn’t going to be for him.

Around that time when he was burning out of his accounting job, Kevin got an offer from a family friend and doctor to move out to LA and help run the business side of his growing practices.

It wasn’t until the summer of 2014, when Kevin got frustrated with having to constantly worry about damaging his first pair of nice, expensive sunglasses which led to a ton of research, and eventually the idea for Brightside.

In Today’s Episode, We Talk About:

[02:16] Where Kevin is originally from.
04:04 Why he transitioned from his previous career.
[07:33] His motivation for jumping into the sunglass industry.
[15:27] How he found a factory to produce his sunglasses.
[25:00] About his day job.
[29:50] How he currently sells his glasses.
[33:47] How brands use macro influencers.
36:04 Some revenue figures for Brightside.
37:12 How Amazon is a potential growth channel.
39:19 The best investment he’s made in order to grow his business.

It takes concrete belief in self & works, not just talking and staying in the talking stage. So this guy did what he said he was going to do. From humble beginnings to side hustle millionaire status by starting from the bottom. That’s what I’m talking about. 🙂
